First, download the automated password reset tool and run it to reset the admin password of your company file in QuickBooks. The steps below will help you change your password effortlessly. 


Note: If you don’t have a CEF browser, an HTML page will open that will redirect you to the correct link. 


  • Go to Intuit’s webpage to download the ‘Automated Password Reset tool.’ Click ‘Download’ and use this tool to reset your QuickBooks admin password for version 2008 through QuickBooks 2019. 
  • Enter the product’s license number and other business information you used when registering to QuickBooks and click ‘Next.’


Note: All the information you use to sign in to the reset password tool should match your system’s information, such as email address, contact number, and others. You might face issues when running this tool if this information is incorrect. 


  • Now, accept the license agreement, and it will download the automated password reset tool. If automatic download doesn’t work, click ‘Download now.’
  • You might get asked to save or run the downloaded file. Choose ‘Save’ to save it on your desktop. 
  • Once done, run the ‘Automated Password Reset tool’ and enter the toked number you received via email. 
  • Go to the QuickBooks Desktop Products dropdown and select the name of the version you are using. 
  • Click the ‘Browse for Company File’ and choose the company file you want to reset password for. 
  • Enter your ‘New Password,’ then ‘Confirm New Password.’ Create this password as a temporary as QuickBooks will ask you again to change the password when opening the company file. 
  • Complete the process by clicking ‘Reset Password.’
  • Once done, log in to your company file using the new password.
